On Wednesday, the 8th of April 2026, there was a sense of pride, achievement and possibility in the air as APN Group celebrated the graduation of the inaugural cohort of its APN Greater Than College Masterclass in Strategic Communication. The event helped mark the beginning of a new chapter in professional learning for communicators who seek practical, real-world skills that match the demands of today’s fast-evolving business landscape

Bridging the Gap Between Theory and Practice

The Masterclass was developed to address a longstanding gap identified by professionals in the field: the disconnect between academic theory and the realities of executing impactful communication campaigns. Drawing from over two decades of experience advising brands, institutions and organisations, APN Group created this programme as a platform for continuous learning focused on imparting practical knowledge, critical thinking and measurable results.

The significance of this programme has been further strengthened by its recognition and approval by the National Industrial Authority (NITA) in giving learners credible and industry-relevant knowledge geared towards elevating their professional capabilities.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, APN Group Managing Director, Lawrence Gikaru, said, “The face of strategic communication is continuously changing, and there is mounting pressure for the communications office to contribute to the overall business bottom line. The GTC course closes this gap by upskilling communication experts with skills that make tangible results for their sectors. We make it practical, requiring learners to solve actual problems affecting their organisation’s business objectives.”

Our promise is that we will leave you greater than we found you,” he said.

Practical Learning for a Changing Profession

The Masterclass helps blend strategy with execution. Participants get to be trained in communication planning, audience research and segmentation, development of insights and messaging, campaign implementation and measurement. Additionally, the course also explores the role of digital platforms in modern communication and the growing influence of artificial intelligence, especially with regards to content creation, social listening, data analysis and ethics.

What helps set the programme apart from already existing ones is its strong emphasis on practical application, as learners get to leave with tools and approaches they can immediately apply in their workplaces and client engagements.

The Masterclass itself is built on a strong legacy. First co-created six years ago, it has previously been offered as a postgraduate course to Master’s students in Strategic Communications at one of Kenya’s leading private universities. Its transition into APN Greater Than College reflects APN’s broader vision of making high-quality, practical communications training more accessible to professionals across Kenya.

The inaugural cohort brought together communication professionals of a diverse nature, ranging from public, private and non-governmental sectors, thereby creating a rich environment for peer learning and collaboration.

Following the success of the first cohort, APN Group is continuing to offer the programme to a wider audience, with the next cohort expected to begin in mid-June. The Masterclass is delivered virtually, complemented by in-person sessions. For communication professionals looking to sharpen their skills, stay ahead of industry shifts and deliver greater value in their work, APN Greater Than College offers a pathway to becoming future-ready.
