John Mwendwa

Account Director



John Mwendwa, a five-time award-winning journalist is a strategic communications and media specialist and Account Director at APN. John has an in-depth knowledge of communications planning, messaging and content management, media relations, corporate communications and crisis management, with a proven ability to develop and implement result oriented goals. He is providing strategic level support to various accounts at APN and is involved in business development.  

John has been Editorial Director at K24 Television under the Mediamax Group and News Editor at KTN where he started his career in Television as a Reporter before rising through the ranks to the position of Output Editor.

He has been awarded the CNN Africa Journalist of the Year in Television News, won first prize for the prestigious Peter Jenkins East Africa Award for Conservation and Environment for Eastern Africa, the UNESCO Red Ribbon Awards for East, Central and Southern Africa for his reports on HIV/AIDS. He also scooped the Kenya Media Trust Journalist of the Year award for TV Magazine reporting and won the Marekebisho Award under Kenya's GJLOS programme. 
John holds a degree in Communication from Daystar University in Nairobi and is a Catherine W. Fanning Research Fellow in Journalism and Democracy. He undertook a broadcasting fellowship at the CNN Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. He also trains the next generation of journalists at the School of Journalism at the University of Nairobi.

John is a member of the Kenya Editors Guild (KEG), Media for Environment, Science, Health and Agriculture (Mesha) and is a council member of the Fashion Design Council of Kenya (FDCK).
