Lawrence who is the founder of Apex Porter Novelli (originally, Apex Communications) brings over 20 years of strategic communication experience to bear for APN clients. In just under a decade has helped build the agency to deliver work for clients that measures to world class standards.. He has build this experience providing leadership in the design and implementation of strategic communication campaigns across the private, service, corporate, social, health, consumer and public sector. He has worked in Kenya, Eastern & Southern Africa and the US market. Under his stewardship APN has built a diverse portfolio of clients and delivered campaigns that have not only delivered real business results for clients but have received the highest industry recognition in the world. The awards include a Global Sabre from the Holmes Report, several Golden World Awards from the International Public Relations Association and the coveted Grand Award from the United Nations in New York.
Lawrence provides overall leadership to deliver on APN’s value proposition and retains a hands-on-role for the work of APN clients through coaching his team on strategic communication planning to align communication with the business goals of clients and in evaluation and measurements. Lawrence believes in “ growing slowly and growing right. The philosophy of APN rests on growth through retention of clients which allows for depth and long-term productive relationships”
Building on a multi-disciplinary background combining sciences, management, strategic communication and leadership, Lawrence is skilled in strategic planning and design, change management, influencer relations, media leveraging , research, policy advocacy, evaluation and behavioural change measurements.
Prior to moving into consulting practice, he had overseen a policy and communication project targeting key decision makers in 14 countries in Eastern Africa with the Arusha-Tanzania based Commonwealth Regional Health Community, the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs and for UNICEF in New York. Lawrence holds the equivalent of an MA degree obtained as a Hubert H. Humphrey Fellow (part of the Fulbright Program) from the University of Minnesota in the US on marketing communication and leadership/business studies. He also holds a certificate in Strategic Communication and Advocacy from the Johns Hopkins University Center for Communication Programs and in public affairs from the Hubert Humphrey Graduate School both in the United States. His other qualifications include a postgraduate diploma in mass communication from the School of Journalism, University of Nairobi and a bachelor’s degree in education from the same University. Lawrence has been a featured speaker in Kenya and at international forums in London, South Africa among other places.
Lawrence is active in humanitarian service and has served as President of the Rotary Club of Milimani, Nairobi.
